In 2024, the State Government assisted Tropical Reef Shipyard acquire a new 135 tonne crane. This was a transformative infrastructure grant which helped the shipyard take on new levels of maintenance to deliver specialist maritime support. Now the next stage of infrastructure strengthening begins.
Through this grant TRS now also start to improve the foundation infrastructure to enhance their ability to deliver marine maintenance and sustainment to Australian and International defence and commercial fleets.
This week the new concrete footings start to take shape. The shipyard starts to raise its profile. New concrete foundations will raise the shipyard slipways, strengthen load limits and take working areas to a higher level, ensuring the TRS staff are working at levels over rising tidal lines.
Laying down this amount of concrete is no mean feat. There is a new depth to be achieved over a very large area.

Supplies need to come in and not disrupt our day to day commitments.

And it is all worth it, incredible new foundations, slab by slab securing the future and strengthening the yard.

Through this investment, TRS ensures they can continue to deliver superior service in any tide and any weather to their global customers.
