The new concrete footings are reaching completion setting the scene for greater use of the Tropical Reef Shipyard slipway and the new 135 tonne crane.
The goal of this redevelopment is to enhance capacity and to modernise the marine maintenance facility providing advanced lift capacity to support visiting naval and commercial fleets.
In 2024, the State Government provided an infrastructure grant to TRS to enable the shipyard to take on new ship dimensions and weights, increasing the maintenance support capability to deliver a more diversified portfolio of specialist maritime support. The next stage of infrastructure foundation strengthening is now reaching completion. The new foundations are now in place to support the use of the 135 tonne crane.

Through this grant TRS now also start to improve the foundation infrastructure to enhance their ability to deliver marine maintenance and sustainment to Australian and International defence and commercial fleets.
The new hardstand area will be aproximately 7,000m2 of reinforced concrete with multiple parking layouts and locations.
