Tropical Reef Shipyard are the largest Northern Australia region specialists in the areas of repair, refit, conversion and maintenance of Australian Defence Force (ADF) vessels. We are Defence approved and with the 3000 tonne lift capability we can accommodate a large range of International Defence fleets. We have maintained and repaired HMAS Cairns Navy vessels, including maintenance and refit of Leeuwin Class Hydrographic vessels for over 20 years. We also completed the LOTE (Life of Type Extension) of the Royal Australian Navy Landing Craft (LCH) and the ongoing refit and repair of these vessels until their decommissioning from service.

TRS has conducted numerous slipping of varied military and paramilitary related vessels from the United States and most of the nations of the Pacific region.

TRS has dedicated project managers for Defence work with a broad range of skills and experience in project managing sustainment and refitting of Defence ships and are more than capable of handling Defence related projects.

As a result of our extensive experience maintaining and repairing ADF vessels, we have been assessed by the Maritime Systems Division, Supplier Quality and Safety Assurance Program as meeting the Quality Management Performance Benchmark and recognised as a Key Divisional Supplier to Defence.  We have also been awarded qualification of our slipway facility to the requirements of DEF(AUST) 5000 Volume 2 Part 20.  We have well-developed processes to ensure continued compliance with these procedures, which are regularly audited by Defence.
